I, too, sing America

Read the poem by Langston Hughes. Who is the "I" of the poem in your opinion? When do you think was the poem written? What words would you use to describe the speaker's feelings and emotions?
Do you know any famous American "darker brothers"? Who are they?

Here is another poem by the same poet. Do you like it?

Dreams
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

The 'I' of the poem is a writer. I think that the poem was written a long time ago. The speaker's feelings and emotions are beautiful because they perfectly describe a moment in every person's life. Because if you don't chase your dreams, you will never be who you really are, and you'll never do what you really want to do. So that's why I think the poem is beautiful. I've never heard for 'darker brothers' before, so I dont know who they are. I like poem very much. Lana 9.a

The "I" f the poem in my opinion is the writer. I think the poem was written about 50 or 60 years ago. I think the speaker wasn't happy about the way black man were treated. I know Will Smith.

I think that "I" of the poem is the writer. The poem was written in the 20th century. The speaker was unhappy when he wrote it. I know some famous American dark brothers but my classmates have already mentioned them. I don't like the poem. Ema 9.a

The "I" of the poem is dark poet- the writer. He is describing the pride of "black life" in the sixties in America.

I guess that the most famous »darker brother« is Marthin Luther King, who fought for human rights of all black people and he was nonviolent.

The poem is interesting, but I don not like it very much.
